Course overview
We all have mental shortcuts that lead to bias - here's how to take control of yours.
Why should you take this course?
Bias is often framed as a character flaw
or a purely social-justice topic, but for lawyers and paralegals it is first
and foremost a professional performance issue.
Mental shortcuts—anchoring, affinity, confirmation bias—speed up everyday
decisions, yet silently distort judgment, erode client trust, and threaten
compliance with the Rules of Professional Conduct.
This session reframes bias as a normal brain function that becomes a liability only when left unexamined. You will see how cognitive dissonance and moral injury drain confidence and leadership effectiveness, then learn simple “pause-point” tools to interrupt bias in real time.
By anchoring reflection to Rule 2.1-1 (Integrity) and Rule 6.3-1.1 (Human-Rights Obligations), the program shows you that managing your own bias is not political correctness—it is professional correctness essential to fair and competent practice.
This program is designed for lawyers and paralegals who want to sharpen judgment, protect reputation, and foster psychologically safe teams without the blame-and-shame approach often associated with EDI training.
