How often do you pick up a sheet of paper, glance at what needs to be done and then drop it back down into the pile again?
I’ll bet you’ll do exactly the same thing the next day too!
Research into our work habits show that almost all of us touch each of our work tasks more than once. And in fact, it’s estimated that we spend the equivalent of 28 days each year just pushing our work around the desk. No wonder we feel overwhelmed with things to do!
But just imagine how much clearer and in control your work space would be if you cut this habit in half.
And just imagine what you could accomplish with those extra days! You could get a project started AND finished, you could take a vacation, you could spend many hours with friends and family – the list is endless!
Action – Today, commit to touching 3 pieces of work just once. Pick it up, complete it and move on.
Hi Nancy ,
Thanks, you are opening many hidden facts like described in message titled 28 days more …..
I wonder whether I have developed as perfectionist by implementing couple of your ideas..
I’m working to emulate such practices Nancy. My favourite list at the moment is this:
Zen Things
1 Do one thing at a time
2 Do it slowly and deliberately
3 Do it completely
4 Do less
5 Put space between things
6 Develop rituals
7 Designate time for certain things
8 Devote time to sitting
9 Smile and serve others
10 Make cleaning a cooking become meditation
11 Think about what is necessary
12 Live simply
Thanks Nancy, I never thought of that but yes you have a very valid point there. I will start with the rule of 3 straightaway. Cheers!
