Do you aspire to be a leader in your business or industry?
If so, the words of former US President John Quincy Adams are all you need to know. He said – “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more or become more, you are a leader.”
Action – To see how close you are to being an effective leader, ask yourself a few basic questions.
- Do I act respectfully to everyone around me?
- Do I encourage creative expression from my team or colleagues?
- How do I help others with their personal and professional development?
- How do I dispel fears, promote risk and help people feel safe regardless of outcomes?
- Do I act towards others the way I want people to act toward me?
There are of course dozens of books, articles and courses on being a good leader. But I suspect that by just starting with Mr. Adams’ statement, you can teach yourself!
Thank you, Nancy. I’ve always shied away from the idea of leadership in a grand sense of the word. But there are so many ways where I now see my actions are important in other leadership roles that I never really think about on a day-to-day basis! I have saved and posted John Quincy Adams’s quote to remind myself of this fact. I am and should aspire to be a leader!
You undoubtedly lead others now. It is really a matter of bringing more attention to those questions, and honing things a bit. Leadership is something we ‘accept’ in our skillset, not just ‘learn’.
Wow!!!
Thank You.
