People extol the virtue of the power of positive thinking. While I agree with all that, I know many people struggle to think positively these days.
I hear a lot of this –
“How can I be positive when I’m out of work?”
Or this…
“It’s difficult to think positively when everything around me is so unsure.”
I can understand these concerns. And for most people, switching to positive thinking is much more complicated than just turning on a switch. But it is a habit that can be learned.
Action – So here are some ways to create that habit:
* Consciously avoid the negative. Whether it is the news, or cynical people or just plain nay-sayers, get yourself out of negative environments.
* Watch your language. No doubt your vocabulary is filled with energy-sapping negatives like “can’t” or “but” or “should”. Stop feeding your brain with negative words.
* Be grateful for everything, especially when that feels difficult. Giving thanks in the face of challenges is one of the most powerful ways to shift from negative to positive.
Positive thinking is a habit you can learn. Choose to begin the process today.
