A client recently shared with me his dread of the computer. He wasn’t worried about the technology or the way in which it operated. His dread came from a feeling of complete overwhelm whenever he sat down in front of the screen!
Not only was the inbox packed, but his stack of online documents, files and information was exhausting. The company had an automatic filing system, but that didn’t take away the daunting task of being able to find something at a moment’s notice.
Yes, some computer management systems are efficient. But many are not, and because the system doesn’t fit the needs of the person or company, that inefficiency spills out onto the individual.
Information management, particularly in these days of instant access to more and more data, is key to maintaining organization.
Action – Even if your IT department manages these systems, you CAN control some of it at your end. Purge old documents, delete duplicate copies and archive whatever you can. Store frequently used email attachments or reports in a single location and invest the time and energy to backup your most important information.
And if you don’t think you can do this on your own, bring in someone else to do it for you. There is no excuse.
You see, not only can you improve your computer’s performance but your own as well.
