Whenever I present or attend workshops, I’m amazed at how many people still think they’ll walk away with some huge A-Ha moment!

There are rarely sudden leaps to big awareness!

We have created our habits, beliefs, attitudes and personalities over a looong period of time. Most of us have fallen into a trap of instant gratification, even when it comes to our own self-development, which only leads to disappointment when it doesn’t happen at the snap of fingers.

Yes, you can gain insights quickly, but lightening bolts rarely come.

Learning new skills, acquiring a deeper understanding, evolving an ideology does not happen in a 2 hour workshop. Or in a vacuum for that matter.

Your personal growth is like a little penny rolling along a shelf. You read today’s blog and the premise intrigues you – the penny rolls a little further along. Then you read a book on the subject and the penny rolls some more. You hear another speaker discuss something similar. Roll roll roll.

Then one day, you see a magazine article about the same subject, and just through timing and universal intelligence, it happens to be the time when the penny gets to the edge of the ledge. In that moment, “the penny drops”, and you “all of a sudden” GET it!

It might feel like an a-ha moment, but it may have taken weeks, months or years for that penny to roll along that ledge.

I’ve been blessed many times by being the person who happens to say something just when the penny is at the edge. And I receive the gratitude graciously, knowing that it is because the person who has gained their insight had heard, read, discussed or appreciated the musings of others long before I arrived on the scene.

Action – Be patient with your learning. Look inside for answers often. Every day, do something that piques your curiosity or intrigues you. Encourage that little penny to roll.

And remember, as they say in showbiz, overnight success takes 15 years! So does personal development.
