In business, we are often told we must create the vision of our future. Once you’ve figured out your vision, you can then go on to create a mission statement and a strategic plan.

That’s all well and good but many people, particularly in sales or sales related administration, are challenged with this idea of visioning.

Some folks will use magazine cut-outs or photographs to create a vision board. This is a fantastic way to begin to create your vision.

Other people may write a letter to themselves dated some time in the future, referring to things as if they are already happening. I am an advocate of this technique too. It is very powerful.

The problem with these tools though is that many people either do not continue with their development or the completed board or letter gets filed away amongst the daily tasks.

Visioning is the art of seeing invisible things. And doing that takes practice and focused attention. Creating a personal or professional vision for yourself is not a one-time project or a weekend workshop. You must look at it again and again, particularly as you actually make the vision a reality.

Action – Revisit any visioning board or letter or statement you have made. Perhaps it is just as relevant today as it was when created. But if not, update it and give it pride of place on your office wall or personal space at home.

As you see your future, you create your future!
