Someone called me recently, wanting to get my help to plan something he said was important. I was excited to find out what this person wanted to create.

But my enthusiasm was short lived when the caller said to me – “this guy at work stole one of my prospective clients and I’d like to plot a way to get even!”

WOW!

What an unfortunate state of affairs. Worse still, the caller was serious! He was willing to spend his valuable time plotting revenge!

Then I realized something – he’s not the only one!

Many people who feel cheated or hard done by will bitch and complain ad infinitum about just how unfair the world is. Then, they will consciously or unconsciously plot ways to get back at the person or system who ripped them off.

This can partially explain why people think it’s okay to cheat on taxes or take a few pens or print cartridges from the office.

Action – The only thing all this negativity will do is bring you down. You will be creating an environment of self-abuse that is far more damaging than anything you could possibly do to another person!

Stop wasting time and energy on negative plans and self-abuse.

And as the writer May Maloo said, the only people with whom you should try to get even are those who have helped you!

  1. The attitude of not getting “even” with those who have wronged you is exactly the reason why people act in ways that screw others. Because there have not been any repercussions that deter them from negatively affecting someone else they continue with it. People and animals will continue the same behaviour as long as it works and they get away with it.
The lack of vengence has led to the complete disregard for outcomes. Like the bratty child who, now very aware of anti-spanking laws and overzealous child advocacy groups’ dim view of correction, flouts authority because he/she knows you cannot punish them anymore beyond saying “bad!”. Enter our present world of juvenile offenders who murder, rape and steal because they are aware the consequences are few and limp-wristed.
If more people took care of those who worked them over maliciously then we would have a world where people mind their “p’s & q’s”. If you doubt me then question why we have a penal system to enforce law (as weak as it is).
