Do you want a clearer desk in the next 30 minutes? Here is exactly how to do it.

Action – First, starting at one end of your desk, place everything into one of these 4 piles:

Do          Defer          Delegate          Ditch

The ‘do’ pile is for those things you must take action on in the next 7-10 days.

‘Defer’ is for those things that can wait for more than 10 days. Mark the date on each file indicating when you will look at it again.

‘Delegate’ is the pile for those things that someone else can do.

And of course ‘Ditch’ is for all those papers you can get rid of.

Be ruthless. And at the end of 30 minutes, toss the Ditch stack, date order the Defer pile, pass on the Delegate batch and start working in your Do stack.

Get organized like this and I guarantee your time will feel and be more productive and focused without all the stress a messy desk brings.

(Nope, this is not my desk!)

Excellent!! My office at work is usually very clear, but our home office table (aka dining room table and surrounding chairs) are a mess!! I will be using this process as soon as possible. Thanks.
