Many leaders or managers don’t know how to coach their teams. All you need to do is ask 4 questions:

  1. What’s now?
  2. What’s possible?
  3. What’s feasible?
  4. What’s next?

The question “whats now” brings out the current situation.

“Whats possible” is a magic wand question. Stated another way, what’s the best outcome possible?

“Whats feasible” moves possibilities into reality. Given the current situation, what are feasible ways forward?

And “whats next” is the accountability question. This is the who, what, where and when of the solution.

Action – Today, coach one of your peers using this technique. Or, run through these questions yourself on a current problem.

Remember, always ask coaching questions that are simple, straightforward and solution-focused.
