Ever have someone pull the plug on your happy moment? Killjoys really can spoil a party!
Or do they?
What is it about their comment that makes it negative? Is there truth in their statement that hits home?
We often identify a killjoy comment as one that deflates a positive experience.
But it is only our interpretation that determines our experience, not the comment itself. And if it holds even one grain of truth – and we don’t LIKE that truth – we’ll call it a killjoy moment.
Yes, some people are pessimistic or dour and tend to make negative comments. But these are something different.
Action – Next time you feel someone is being a killjoy, pause for a moment, identify the spoken truth that has annoyed you and use it to create the results you really want.
Learn to listen to your reactions – you can really be your own best teacher.
