Our inability to demonstrate our own greatness often comes from a fear of looking arrogant. But if you can’t acknowledge how wonderful you are to yourself, why do you expect someone else to?
Arrogance comes from thinking you’re better than someone else. Confidence comes when you measure yourself against your own standards and you like what you see.
I do the best me in the world – in fact, no one else can do Nancy Morris like I do. Does that make me arrogant? No. But it does fill me with confidence that comes from taking responsibility for who I am.
Action – Think of one person who you define as arrogant and of someone you define as confident. What are the differences in their behaviors and attitudes?
Now commit to building your confidence while ditching any ideas that you’re being arrogant.
Speak the truth of your abilities with confidence.
Good morning Nancy,
Today´s tip has made a big difference to my way of thinking. Indeed, it has convinced me that I´ve been doing it right lately. I used to be extremely humble, to the point of hiding my skills or abilities unless someone noticed what I did right. But I started to change some aspects of my own behavior, and now I´m trying to make people notice the things I am good for (or even great), things that tell people I know things, that my work is good, and that I have many resources in my sleeve when needed.
Thanks for your good advice.
This reminds me of someone who often had something good to say, but the “delivery” was so arrogant that the message was impossible to hear.
When I start to defend myself rather than explain myself, I bet I can get the same way.
