You may have read one of my previous blog posts about the impact of negative language on our motivation. Basically, the more negative words you use to describe your day, the more negative your day will be.

I often hear people complain about what has not worked, what doesn’t fit and how things should be. They use up energy on being negative.

Well, let’s have a look at that by doing a few calculations.

How many things had to go right in order for you to get through yesterday? What ducks had to line up in the right way for you to be able to get to work, attend those meetings, enjoy coffee with a friend, make the phone calls and get home in one piece?

I’m not saying life doesn’t have its hassles or challenges. I experience broken computers, busy signals, lineups at the gas station, and difficult people.

These things can be annoying but why give them so much power they cancel out all the positive things that happen to you every single day?!

Action – Starting right now, begin jotting down all the things that happen right today. It could be as simple as the computer turning on to something far more complex like that deal finally closing.

As you begin to focus on the things that go right in your life, what goes wrong will become insignificant.

(What is one ‘duck’ you already know about today? Please leave a reply in the comments box.)

  1. Part of cultivating a garden (self) includes pulling weeds (negativity). Weeds camouflage and take away from the beauty of a garden. As humans we are conditioned to focus on the bad; all we see are the weeds, totally discounting the living.

  2. One duck this morning: I made it safely to work without a car accident. Living in LA, that’s always a challenge!
