So, you’re more irritable and scattered than usual?
While there are many things that could be behind it, such as stress, fatigue or just plain old frustration, I’m going to share with you another potential cause of your negative perspective.
The news!
Yup, that’s right. News.
A significant portion of the news we hear, see or read each day is actually pretty irrelevant to our immediate and even long-term needs. And, of course, we all know that a huge portion of the news is either focused on negative events or skewed to a particular political or social ideology.
In fact, in scanning a newspaper today, I spotted only one positive story. When writing a research paper on the impact of news stories on our interpretation of other information, I was hard pressed to find enough positively based articles to balance the findings!
So much irrelevant information, packed on top of an already hectic and likely unhealthy lifestyle is bound to leave you feeling and thinking flat, low and downright crappy.
Action – For one week, avoid the news on TV, radio, the internet and newspapers. Give your mind, body and spirit a break. (Don’t worry, what you need to know will come to you anyway.)
In the meantime, no news IS good news!
