The recent death of a local legend is the inspiration behind today’s blog posting. Though I didn’t know this man personally, after hearing about him in all the newspapers and TV reports, I wish I did.

Fred Meilleur was the proprietor of a hotel and restaurant for over 60 years. While the food and accommodation were apparently great, it was the charm and character of the man that brought people through the doors time and again.

Words used to describe him included:

And his near photographic memory meant that he could remember your last visit even if it was months ago.

At his funeral, the eulogy had people laughing and crying, knowing that while his life was long and full, he would be greatly missed.

No doubt you have known or heard of people like this yourself.

To me, Mr. Meulleur savoured each moment and each person he met. And that degree of vitality and compassion created true connection with everyone who knew him.

– Do you live your life that way? Will others remember you with a tear and a smile?

Live each day as if it were you last, because one day, it will be.
