John Mason said ‘you were born an original, don’t die a copy’. His statement is very profound!

Through our youth, we learn what is expected of us to be a part of our community, to get ahead at school, or to be socially skilled.

At the same time, many of us also experience trauma, loss or esteem issues. A definition of who we ‘should’ be gets more attention than our innate knowledge of who we actually are. We lose our own concept of self and unconsciously replace it with what we perceive others to be.

We become copycats.

Action – Be who you truly are by learning your values, beliefs, ideas and ideals. Read books, hire a coach, or find a mentor.

Perhaps start by asking yourself this question frequently throughout the day – what is true for me in this moment?

Model others –yes. Copy them? Absolutely not!
