Sometimes, you’re just going to feel crappy. That IS the natural order of things.

Throughout our entire lives, we ride a rollercoaster of up and down emotions and beliefs. Yes, negative responses to situations and circumstances are as internally created as positives, but it doesn’t mean you are any less successful, valuable or worthy if you are feeling down or bad.

What you resist WILL persist. If you are tired, yet think you SHOULD continue to push, the fatigue will just get worse at some level. If you feel lonely, and tell yourself to simply snap out of it, that loneliness will surface somewhere else in your world.

For various reasons, you will create emotions and responses you then judge as negative. Yet, sadness is as valid as happiness. Fear as valid as comfort.

There are several ways to discover what is going on underneath. But the first step in this process is acceptance. Stop the fight and the discomfort immediately begins to subside.

Action – What so-called negative emotion are you fighting against? Write out why you think you shouldn’t feel what you do. Then, finish your writing with this phrase – “and in this moment, I accept that I’m feeling this way”.

Breath in the acceptance. As the psychologist Carl Rogers said – the curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change!
