I recently heard the worst example of a product sales pitch I’ve ever come across. While it may have created some sales, it will have also created disappointment.

The product was a self-help book. And part of the pitch was this statement:

“Happiness is our natural state of being.”

The problem with that statement? Happiness is NOT our natural state of being.

Being is our natural state of being! And that includes happiness, sadness, fear, confidence, calm and so on.

No one gets through this life without experiencing a wide range of emotions.

So, that sales pitch makes someone WRONG if they are ever anything but happy.

Action – Always frame your solutions in the positives and don’t rely on shock value or negative imagery to get people’s attention.

Making someone wrong may get them to buy from you, but ultimately they will feel annoyed or frustrated when they figure out the con.
