Back in University, I used to vacuum my room when it came time to study! I used to do anything to avoid schoolwork. It was very hard to get motivated.
Maybe you know what I’m talking about!?
Motivation comes from thought. If our thoughts about the result of the task at hand are negative, it’s very unlikely we will stay motivated.
And motivation drops like a brick if that outcome threatens us at a personal level, like putting our reputation on the line.
While there are certainly things we don’t want to do, lack of motivation often comes more from fear than dislike.
Action – What’s keeping you unmotivated right now? What risks do you fear? What do you think is at stake if the outcome is negative?
Challenge the validity of your negative answers.
Because when you really understand and upgrade your thought processes, you can easily feel more motivated.
