Most people leave their jobs because of a lack of challenge rather than a low paycheck. And if you’re a manager, it’s time to ask yourself if YOU support your team in their development.
While staff may complain about being overworked and underpaid, most are actually bored.
Various research has repeatedly shown people choose their employers because of promises of growth, skill development and opportunities to learn. Dissatisfaction follows when it’s discovered the promises were empty or when managers do not allocate sufficient time to deliver.
Action – Where are you falling short on your promises to support your team? Have you created agreed development plans yet, and if so, are they on track?
Money literally walks out the door when someone leaves in favor of the competition. Put a plug in the brain drain by taking a bigger role in challenging and teaching your team.
