Do you feel unmotivated to take action on your goals? Well, I’m going to suggest something that may sound totally counterintuitive.
Expand your goal to be 2 or 3 times bigger than it currently is!
Yes, chunking goals down can definitely work to get you re-engaged, but if for some reason that tactic doesn’t work for you, try this one on for size!
Here’s an example from one of my clients. Bob wanted to make $500,000 in one year. After six months, he was 20% short of his goal, but he was feeling dragged down and unmotivated.
So, I asked him how he could make $1 million instead. His immediate reply was that it was impossible, but with some creative brainstorming, we came up with a whole list of possible actions he could take. We dumped the silly and illegal ones, but what was left were several tangible, realistic and exciting NEW possibilities.
Action – Take a goal you’re falling short on. Double it, and brainstorm with a friend some new ways to approach it.
And end up like Bob, who got his original goal, and then some!
