I believe that, more often than not, “good” is “great”. There is no need to wait around for the newest ‘great’ gadget, that ‘great’ client or any other ‘great’ thing because, to me, its all great! It is good, so therefore it is great.
However, today I need to dig a little deeper. Today, “less than good” needs to be “great”.
For several years, I have had an ongoing physical condition that leaves me feeling exhausted sometimes. And some days, just getting out of bed is a real battle. Unfortunately, today is one of those days … and the action list at work has quite a few tasks on it!
For many people, particularly those who are self-employed or high-end commission earners, we have a tendency of pushing through those sick days. We hang in there even when our body is screaming for us to back off because “if I’m not at my desk, I’m not earning money.”
On the one hand, we need to be working to earn the wage. And on the other hand, we need to make our health the number one priority as it is the foundation of all we do.
And I’ve clapped those hands together on more than one occasion!
However, the “right” hand – the one of stepping back to regain strength – has been winning out more and more over the past few months.
And so today, I may think to myself for a moment that the few tasks I will complete today are “less than good”. And then, as I shut the office door behind me and head home, I will choose to think “less than good is great today”.
It is quite freeing.
