As I was driving from one meeting to the next recently, I found myself really enjoying the alone time. The sanctuary of my car can often be refreshing.
While stopped at a red light, I noticed the lady in the car next to me fiddling with some papers. The guy to the right looked a bit frustrated and impatient as he rubbed his forehead with his hand. And in my rearview mirror, I noticed a couple in what appeared to be a rather heated discussion.
When the light turned green and we all pulled away, likely to never meet again, I realized that in each vehicle, a tiny world was playing itself out.
Action – How often do you pause to imagine the lives and worlds of the people you pass? Being empathetic to the perspective of another person is considered a key element in emotional intelligence and great leadership and significantly impacts your personal and professional relationships.
But I must confess that I didn’t ponder this point for too long! At the next red light, I was spotted singing away to a favorite old tune on the radio by the young guy in the car next to me.
You see, we aren’t so unnoticed as we think we are.
