While some of the health concerns and injuries I’ve had over the last few years have been difficult and sometimes frightening, more often than not, I’ve always been able to find a positive lesson that has benefited my life.

Well, it’s happened again!

Not too long ago, I had a pretty impressive wipeout while waterskiing. The long and the short of it is that I essentially did the splits at 30 miles per hour, ripping most of the muscles around my left hip and thigh. It was incredibly painful and, of course, quite debilitating. Not only was my waterski season cut short, but it is likely to get in the way of other sporting activities for months to come.

But what was most difficult to take was the anxiety I felt about by not being able to work.

You see, I had let some things slide and fall behind. In fact, the day after the accident, I was supposed to be in the studio to record another set of my corporate audio clips. The injury made that impossible and, as I only had a handful of clips ready to broadcast, I felt immense pressure which made the physical pain feel even worse.

It has been, however, a great reminder of the importance of getting a little ahead of the game to reduce the strain of tight deadlines or unexpected disruptions.

Action – If you were to become temporarily knocked off your feet tomorrow, what would be the thing you would feel most anxious about? How could you reduce that anxiety in advance today?
