Fear is like cement – it will hold you down as if you had superglue on your shoes! And the fear of ridicule will stop most of us in our tracks.
In our heads, we imagine that if we do X, then Bob will become annoyed. Or maybe the boss will think we’re a failure if he finds out we don’t know how to do something. Or maybe someone will just not like us.
There was a time when my success was blocked because of my fear of being ridiculed. I didn’t allow the real me to shine through!
Action – Honestly look at your motivations for not taking an action. Does cold calling instantly make you think of rejection? How about saying ‘no’ to an unreasonable request? Do you balk at the idea of disagreeing with the boss?
Trying to please everyone results in pleasing no one in the long run!

“Trying to please everyone results in pleasing no one in the long run!” – this is perfectly said and worth to be taken into account.
I have found more often than not, who you are trying to please is much less (if at all) invested in the outcome of your actions. I am the one that is highly invested in what I perceive the perception of others will be. Truth be told…they are far more worried about their outcomes to be worrying about mine! Thanks for such a great reminder!
This is such a wonderful SSS today. It helps if you are the one trying to please everyone or someone who sees a co-worker struggle with this. There is a great deal of frustration and heartache associated with this. When someone goes above and beyond to please everyone and then that becomes the expected they find they are now locked in a state of never getting anything done and those who benefit from the goodwill don’t really appreciate it because they never knew there were being treated special in the first place. No one wins.
