Sometimes you need to fake it ‘til you make it!
Jane has been a successful business woman for more than 30 years. But the recent economic crunch pinched her too.
Despite years of wisdom acquired in good times and bad, she slipped into a depression. Her confidence, once strong and unbreakable, was annihilated. Nothing and no one could help. The only person who could do something was Jane.
And she did do something.
By taking simple actions each and every day, Jane turned things around. The joy wasn’t there but the actions started again, even if they were forced.
And as the momentum of action picked up, so too did her positive attitude.
Action – If you’ve been feeling low, deflated or just plain ol’ unmotivated, DO something. And do it everyday.
As for my friend? Well, her business is once again flying high and she’s feeling great!
(You see, as Dr. Jerome Bruner puts it – you are more likely to act yourself into feelings than feel yourself into action.)
love this! I can really empathize and appreciate the science behind it.
Terrific nudge as we start the new year. Personally I’ve been slipping into that rut. Last couple of weeks I’ve been taking DIFFERENT actions like you’ve suggested. Seems to help. So appreciate your “get psyched up” tips.
This is sound and wise advice….I would love to meet someone who has never had set backs that cause them the 2nd quess what they are doing. 🙂
This is the mantra “Get up. Dress up. Show up. Never give up!” I use whenever I feel my spirits flagging. Doing it, not just saying it, is key. Thanks Nancy for the positive reminders!
Can’t believe I haven’t heard this one, love it
