Have you ever sat through a meeting that you felt was a waste of time?
Undoubtedly, you are saying ‘yes’, so to change things, use a tool described in the book Breaking The Rules by Kurt Wright to shift meetings from time-wasters to productive opportunities for progress.
When people seem stuck in negatives or problems, ask “What’s working?” This question gets you on a path of solutions.
Then find out what has made the solution effective. “Why is it working?”
Then ask the third question – “What would make that ideal?”
Stay focused on the good stuff, until you ask the fourth question – “What’s not quite right yet?”
The fifth and final question is solution-focused. “What do we need to do to make that work?”
This series of questions is very powerful whether in a large meeting or 1-to-1.
Action – Use it in your next 3 meetings and see what happens.
