Without a meaningful goal, you’re going nowhere.

Even with that meaningful goal, you will still get nowhere without the plan to make it happen.

It doesn’t have to be a huge goal but it does need to be defined, both in outcome and in reason.

Determine what you want to achieve and what you want to avoid. These become your objectives.

What is the purpose for achieving those objectives? This becomes a guiding principle that will help you overcome any obstacles.

The actual strategy will come later but without your objective and guiding principle, you’re stumbling blind. So start small if you must, but START.

Action – Today, define one objective you will achieve by the end of the day for one particular purpose. Do the same tomorrow. Then, start making your objectives wider or bigger.

Grow the habit of setting objectives and making them happen every day.

  1. Nancy, Interestingly I was just thinking this morning, getting ready to come to work, that right now much of my life is in limbo, waiting on this or that to occur before I make the next decision. It “seems” to me that, in my current situation with a couple of major events, one decision must follow another rather than me going off in various directions toward a goal without clear direction. In other words, I could set goals and take action, but the action may not be ultimately supportive, if circumstances change. So while in Limbo-ville I consider what I want, make contingency plans depending on the outcome of each upcoming event, and then wait. Is waiting another word for stuck? What am I missing here?
I guess I also want to add that it became pretty clear in my thoughts this morning that one word is emerging as a mantra during this waiting game … and that is “freedom.” I want to and have been making decisions (as they come up) based on maintaining freedom in my life. So maybe that’s my goal. Yes, in fact, I believe that is correct. It is becoming more clear to me even as I write this that freedom is my “key” right now and therefore my guiding light, and a goal on which I can take action each day. I feel better all ready.
If you note anything I might be overlooking, I’d be happy to hear it. Thanks.

  2. Hi CA – I don’t think you’re overlooking anything. In fact, it sounds like you are in the middle of finding something! Follow your voice…listen to your wisdom!
    Nancy
