Many people look back on their day and feel they’ve accomplished nothing. Those folks have forgotten that results are cumulative.

If you were to look back over your outcomes, both successful and not, you would see they came after a series of decisions and actions. Few, if any, struck like a bolt of lightening.

Everyday, through small repeated actions over time, we create our outcomes. For some people, negative outcomes occur when they stop and give up, losing sight of what it is they ARE actually achieving every day.

And the great thing for them is that simply starting the daily actions again can put them right back on that path to success.

Action – Today, when your work is done and you’re making your way home, focus your attention on everything you did, whether you think it was successful or not.

Everything you do creates results. And those results ARE worth acknowledging.

  1. I believe that we should know that all of our actions create results, good or not, and we must be prepared to face it, understanding that, in somehow, we are contributing not only for our professional development, but also as human being.

  2. I track everything in my work calendar on Outlook – I use it to reflect back each week when I meet with my manager to see what I accomplished, and if I didn’t get as far on something I use it to figure out where my time went instead and why. It’s become a daily (if not, hourly) habit that barely takes any time to track. It’s nice to see the progress I’ve made over time and how I’ve learned to better manage my time. It’s also rewarding to wrap up each day seeing the variety of tasks I completed and have a mini-celebration on my way home.

  3. Keeping a journal of my thoughts with some regularity helps me see that I am moving forward and proof that I am finding solutions to problems and resolving frustrations. My “what have you done for me lately” attitude often prevents me from appreciating that consistent focused actions cause the change I desire. Reviewing my journal notes guves me evidence that my efforts are fruitful.

  4. its so easy to discount ourselves and the “little” things we do. Its very refreshing to think those small steps should be appreciated.

  5. Nancy, you said it, through repeated actions everyday we create our outcomes and that happened today. Its positive reassurance that the hard work today and everyday will pay off.

  6. Driven with confidence. Believing I am succeeding every day! It is just in my nature…the more I learn the better the results.

  7. Great reminder as this has been something I’ve been struggling with and thinking about a lot lately – all the little things that come up along the way during the process that feel like distractions but are really stepping stones on the path to success.
