In all my research about the key attitudes and actions for creating successful goals, I keep coming back to the same fundamental principle …

You are guaranteed to get your goal if you keep it within your control.

Anything that involves the decision making processes of another person is NOT a goal. It is a desired outcome.

You may have the desired outcome of making $200,000, getting that specific job, acquiring five new clients or ensuring the completion of a team project. But NONE of these are goals.

Goals are always and only ever the actions you take to make the desired outcome more likely to happen.

And I am astounded by the number of people who do not know this distinction and continue to struggle month after month.

Action – Check the ‘goals’ you’re currently working on. Are they really goals that you can control or are they desired outcomes involving others?

Turn your desired outcomes into goals and get your control back!
