Everyone knows public speaking can be frightening. For some, being in front of an audience is something akin to death!
Personally, I love being up on stage. Give me an audience and I just light up. It’s one of my favorite places to be.
And it wasn’t always that way. But several years ago, I learned a technique for reducing fear that I have applied in other areas of my business and life.
I was asked to speak to a college graduation class. While I had done many presentations before, this audience was going to total 800 people. The thought of 1600 eyeballs all on me was terrifying. So what did I do? I did a live television interview to about 10,000 people the day before!
Granted, the interview was me and one other person, but I knew that on the other side of the cameras was a live audience. I was so scared, I think my eyeballs rattled!
Yes, I was still nervous doing the presentation for the 800, but by living through something bigger and harder, I KNEW the presentation would be absolutely great. And it was!
Action – If you have something coming up that scares you, do something even more frightening first.
