I never argue with an idiot. I’ll get dragged down to their level and then beaten by their experience!
While I don’t actually like the word ‘idiot’, this old saying is an extremely powerful reminder of the futility of fighting with someone who is being argumentative and closed to new ideas.
The very nature of human contact and communication means we invariably end up debating points with people who really just want to be right. It could be our spouse, a friend, colleague or client. Someone we like or someone we don’t. It could even be ourself!!
It doesn’t really matter. But at some point, someone in the fray needs to put a halt to the idiocy.
Action – Before your next fight spirals completely out of control, stop the argument. Mentally remove yourself and ask if this back and forth nonsense is REALLY worth your time and effort.
And if you happen to be looking in the mirror at the time, walk away!!
