“So many of our dreams at first seem impossible, then they seem improbable, and then when we summon the will, they soon become inevitable.”
I’m not sure at what point in his life the actor Christopher Reeve made that statement.
Perhaps it was while he was on the Broadway stage before his big acting triumphs in the Superman movies. Or, after he became a quadriplegic in a horse riding accident, perhaps it was around the time that he began to have some feelings in his legs.
It doesn’t really matter. What matters is the concise way he reminds us that we can turn what seems impossible into the inevitable. In fact, we do it all the time.
Throughout our entire lives, we make an initial judgment that something we want to achieve is impossible. But then, we make a decision to do what is necessary to make it happen. Unfortunately, most of the time, these achievements relate to smaller, day to day activities.
And so we don’t recognize them for the accomplishments they actually are.
It takes the same attitudes and actions to achieve the small as it does the big.
Action – What is one thing you’ve done this week that you didn’t think you could? What mental and physical skills made it happen? And how can you now take that knowledge and apply it to a much larger goal?
Your ability to translate small to big makes all the difference.
