Today I’m going to do something different with some quotes.
Action – I’d like you to grab a sheet of paper.
I’m going to give you a phrase and, once read, write a word or two that describes your initial reaction to what you see.
Let’s get started:
Show me a thoroughly satisfied man and I will show you a failure. (Thomas Edison)
(Now, stop and write something.)
Our ultimate freedom is the right and power to decide how anybody or anything outside ourselves will affect us. (Stephen Covey)
(What do you think of that?)
What is necessary to change a person is to change his awareness of himself. (Abraham Maslow)
(What pops into your head when you read that?)
The world is filled with willing people; some willing to work, the rest willing to let them! (Robert Frost)
(And that one – what do you think about that?)
Now, what do ALL your written words tell you? Our thoughts can turn into springboards if we allow ourselves a few moments to reflect.
edison lighthouse,
you have some freedom, but not ultimate freedom (only in your dreams)
blank
if you want something done give it to a busy person (ie me!)
i ‘liked’ your one about negative people, that is i think about it and agree, unfortunately its not always possible to bin them (the negative people that is)
a further thought –
Expectations – if you don’t have them you will not be disappointed. there is probably a more eloquent way of putting this.
but it is applicable in life eg:-
i was interested to observe how the company who arranged a recent (relatively expensive) holiday for us ‘managed’ our expectations – ie they had an interesting balance/tightrope between persuading us to pay for a more expensive holiday ie that it was worth paying the extra, but not to expect too much ie if if it was better than we expected we would be satisfied customers and go back for more. (we were very satisfied, but have not gone back for more as yet!)
it is also applicable to many other situations weather forecasts (we are in the middle of a hosepipe ban but have flooding!) relationships – personal, family, clients and so on…..
I like this thanks
I keep hearing more about “Freedom” and how important it is especially for people in our business.
I am reading a book called Abundance, The Future is Better than you Think and it says that Freedom and Health are the two most important things in life. Good book
My responses:
1. Being thoroughly satisfied means you are enjoying your life. Some people can work their lives away to acheive and never enjoy their lives or be at peace with themselves regardless of how much money they have.
2. Decision of perspective
3. Showing him himself. Admitting you have a problem is the first step
4. Willing to work are leaders, willing to watch are leeches (the old ant and grasshopper story)
1. Satisfaction = mediocrity
2. You are in colntrol of how things effect you.
3. If someone is comfortable and confident with who they are, they will treat others with the respect they feel they are worth of.
4. Most people are along for the ride, the rest of us are pulling the wagon.
1. Keep on pushing.
“It don’t make sense not to keep on pushing” – Curtis Mayfield
2. Environmental perception
You may not have control of the environment around you, but you can affect your perception of it.
3. Start at the root
4. “How” & “Why”
Some people know the “how”, while others know the “why”. Both are necessary to a task/project. Furthermore, certain people are naturally better at knowing how to execute a project, and others are naturally better at knowing why a project is necessary. Leverage your natural strengths.
All of these questions can be answered in so many ways and I think the way we feel about our answers or others is based largely on our political and or religious back ground and our experiences in life with unmotivated, underproductive people and how strongly we feel the need to help those around us and how willing we are to live our lives with a mirror in place. There is no correct or incorrect answer to any of these but I do think freedom is not free and we must work hard for everything we have in this life. Love and support those around us and be always be prepared to see things through the eyes of others.
I agree with Virginia’s comments above, us Virginia’s have to stick together. These quotes bring to mind very quickly the things you respect, love and hate about other people in your life. The way we view other people and their actions comes from our own upbringing and how your life was shaped by those you depended on, we can grow and change and expand our minds and perceptions but at our core we have some very strongly held ideas of what makes a good person or situation.
