Psychologists research because we love to give people the opportunity of seeing things in a different way.
Here’s a case in point: We know millions and millions of neural connections exist in the brain although we don’t always know what the connections do.
We also know that, on average, there are 100 billion bits of data flying across these connections EVERY SECOND. Yet, people are conscious of about only 2000 of them PER DAY.
What, then, acts as the filter between 100 billion per second and 2000 per day? Well, what bubbles up to our consciousness are those bits of information that are relevant to us individually.
A person’s filter is based on their history, knowledge, fears, biases, moods and habits. So we only think about those things that are self-serving, not those things that are a reality!
Action – Tell me then, what do you think about THAT?
Movie “Wolf of the Wall Street” is on my mind.
Well I think that we could all think differently and in being so selective allow another reality, better serving, to emerge.
I agree. And it is my basic philosophy that the depth of self-knowledge directly relates to the breadth of success (however one chooses to define it for themselves). Narrow thinking and knowledge leads to narrow success.
Nancy this is wonderful information, I am thankful that my filter works so well and allows me to see inside and outside of myself. Too much reality might now always be good for us, but being aware of others is a good thing.
