Feeling a lack of confidence today?
If so, there are 3 little words you can use whenever you feel unsure.
Act as if.
That’s it.
Let’s say you have to make a phone call you really don’t want to make. Maybe it is a cold call, or some other kind of call to someone you don’t know and you’re feeling hesitant.
Okay, you’re downright borderline nutso about it.
Here’s the scenario that may be playing in your head as you dance around the phone: This guy doesn’t want to hear from me. What if he is annoyed I’m calling? I don’t really know what I’m talking about. He could ask me questions I can’t answer and I’ll look like an idiot. This is so boring. Why do I have to do this?
You may wander away from your phone, hiding near the watercooler or suddenly remembering some old paperwork that needs your attention. Even an appointment with the dentist would be less painful than picking up that phone!
Action – Now, consider how someone who feels completely confident at the task would react. What would he or she be thinking? How would they actually behave? What steps or systems might they have in place? How would they manage themselves in this situation?
Even more powerful is referring to your own attitudes and actions when you have been successful at something similar in the past. What did you do? How did you think?
Imagine, just for a moment, what you could create in this world if you simply acted as if you already had.
