Sports psychology teaches us a lot about how to succeed in our career or business. In tennis for example (where players often lose many individual points even if they win the whole game) psychologists have found very distinct patterns of behavior.

One such behavior is known as the “between point mindset”.

Highly successful tennis players have phases of thought and action they go through between each point. Top competitors start by displaying a strong positive physical presence, even if they are losing. They “act as if” all is well to prevent negative thoughts and doubts from creeping in. Then they create a relaxed pause where their breathing slows and heart rate drops. Once physiologically in control again, they shift focus to the upcoming point and their strategy.

This whole process is a learned behavior that you too can master.

Action – Start by “acting as if” all is well with a project or situation that is currently driving you crazy. Then get yourself physically and mentally back in the game of creating success.
