Change where you work and you’ll change how you work. And when I say “change where you work”, I’m not talking about quitting your present job, though that is of course an option.
I’m talking about changing the physical scenery.
I’m self-employed and enjoy the luxury of choosing my own hours, decorating my home office exactly as I like and even working in any room of the house, if that’s what I want.
But even when I worked in a corporate environment, I changed my physical location as often as possible – at least a few times per week.
I would steal away to one of the conference rooms to get some good focus time for that project or stack of paperwork. I would tuck in at the back corner of a coffee shop as I edited documents or outlined writing projects. Even when working as a secretary, I could always create some quiet time to focus on tasks by slipping into the lunch room, an unused office space or simply swapping desks with someone else for 30 minutes or so.
Action – There are always ways to create some uninterrupted time for focus, concentration, peace and quiet. Hunt out two such hideaways today and use each one at least once in the next 5 days.
